Planet Hollywood may be a new name on the Las Vegas scene, a seemingly rather new entry into the big Las Vegas strip hotel casino empire, but it’s actually been around for a very long time now, and is just a re-branding of a famous casino which has been a mainstay on the scene for over 50 years now.

The property first opened in 1963 as the Tally-Ho. It didn’t do all that well, so the next year they changed the name to the King’s Crown, which didn’t help it from failing. When they weren’t successful in having their casino license renewed, the King’s Crown was sold and re-opened as the Aladdin.

Star of Peepshow and hit reality show Holly’s World, blonde bombshell Holly Madison posed for photos with the new Planet Holly slot machines at Planet Hollywood Casino Resort on October 5, 2010.

The Arab themed Aladdin fared much better, and although its ownership changed hands several times over the years, went into bankruptcy, was closed down by the gaming commission for a time, and was even demolished and rebuilt completely, it stood proudly on the strip from 1966 all the way to 2007 when it was transformed into Planet Hollywood.

Although the Aladdin was renovated several times over the years, this hotel casino that once played host to Elvis Presley’s wedding back in 1967 was in need of some serious remodeling, although the new owners managed to keep the casino resort open by completing it in stages.

In 2010, Planet Hollywood was sold once again, this time to casino giant Caesars Entertainment, who currently own and operate the property. Several restaurants as well as the Prive Nightclub remain under private ownership, but with the track record that Caesars has had over the years, the property is now in good hands and this bodes well for Planet Hollywood’s remaining a fixture on the strip for many years to come.

Along with the new name, the property has been transformed from the Middle Eastern theme that the Aladdin featured all these decades, to one that delivers a Hollywood feel. This remains one of Las Vegas’ biggest hotels, featuring 37 stories with over 2,500 rooms, and also has the Elera on its grounds, a 52 story upscale 4 star hotel owned by Hilton which adds another 1,200 suites. Their 100,000 square foot casino eagerly services guests at both hotels.

The Features of Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino

The Hollywood theme is very present here and their rooms all feature references, props, and memorabilia from famous Hollywood movies. Rooms are available configured as either a king or two queens, as is the standard in Vegas and elsewhere these days.

One can choose from a Hollywood Hip room, or move up to an Ultra Hip or a Resort room for only a little more. Rooms here can be had for as little as $49 per night, making this hotel’s rates as reasonable as they come.

Several types of suites are also available, starting at only $182, around the price of a standard hotel room at many hotels. The Panorama Suite is particularly nice as it gives guests the pleasure of a 180 degree view of the strip through it’s floor to ceiling windows, from $325 a night.

This is a very up to date hotel in spite of its age and provide great value to their guests, and the Hollywood feel is one that many guests enjoy. Whether you are a movie buff or not, the goal is to delight everyone here and they do a pretty good job of that at this hotel.

There are 11 restaurants on hand waiting to delight you. Most of these cater to the average diner, and there’s only one pricey upscale restaurant, the Strip House, but even that is priced fairly reasonably for an exclusive steakhouse, with entrée prices ranging from $25 to $40. This gets you steak charred to perfection that they claim is fit for a movie star.

There are a lot of great buffets in Las Vegas, but the Spice Market Buffet at Planet Hollywood was voted the best buffet in the city, and features a wide selection of dishes from around the world. Gordon Ramsey Burgr dishes out great burgers to the exacting standards of the world famous chef.

Pin Up Pizza boasts the largest pizza slices on the strip. Ringer Wings, Pizza, and Sliders Sports Book combines great eating with plenty of sports action. Planet Dailies is an innovative café. P.F. Chang serves up fresh and contemporary Asian cuisine.
